Kiln Casting and Printmaking onto Glass
Course fee: 900 EUR
At the beginning stands an idea which we will translate into objects and images that are connected with each other. In order to realize our ideas we use several kiln casting techniques including open face and lost wax casting. We will also explore various printmaking techniques on glass. By screen printing with glass powders, experimenting with sun printing as well as printing with decals and stamps, we transfer the images from our mind onto the glass thus creating unique glass pieces.
In the course we will develop our own vocabulary for using glass as a narrative medium. We want to find a balance between techniques and ideas which will result into a story that at the end is activated by its viewers.
Silvia Levenson uses glass as a lens for reflecting about conflicts in family and in society. By re-fashioning housewares and pharmaceuticals in candy-colored glass, her sculptures present a dark and ironic vision of contemporary home life. Her work has been exhibited around the world and is a part of several public collections such as Corning Museum of Glass or New Mexico Museum of Art, Santa Fè.
